Position Summary 

Renaissance is looking for a collaborative and detail orientated Laboratory Operations Technician to join our Team. This role will be based out of our offices located on the University of British Columbia’s main campus, in beautiful Vancouver, BC.  

 Reporting to the Operations Administrator, the Laboratory Operations Technician plays a key role in maintaining smooth day-to-day operations across the laboratory and office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Lab Operations

• Proactively ensures the laboratory and office are clean, organized, and well-maintained.
• Continuously cycles and stocks sterile glassware using the dishwasher, autoclave, and drying oven.
• Sterilization and disposal of biological waste, recycling, cleaning of the walk-in cooler, and sterilization of lab supplies (e.g., pipette tips, plate spreaders).
• Schedules and performs routine maintenance and calibration of shared lab equipment; stores and maintains equipment manuals.
• Writes SOPs for new maintenance procedures.
• Monitors the inventory of general use media, and when required, prepares fresh media following standardized recipes.

 Inventory & Supplies 

• Monitors and restocks common-use laboratory supplies and media.
• Coordinates inventory, quotes, ordering, receipt, and storage of lab and office supplies.
• Coordinates purchase orders, project codes, and expense tracking.

 Administrative & Operational Support

• Supports the Operations Administrator with various administrative tasks.
• Coordinates courier shipments and vendor communications (e.g., quotes, product info).
• Coordinates with the building management team to ensure laboratory utilities and facilities are maintained.
• Assists in maintaining a safe lab environment in collaboration with the Laboratory Safety Officer.
• Coordinates equipment setup, manages lab software or hardware needs; liaises with internal or external technical support when needed.
• Supports a positive and cooperative team environment by being responsive, reliable, and solution-oriented in day-to-day interactions.
• Supports a collaborative lab environment by proactively identifying and resolving operational issues that could affect scientific workflows.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Required: 

• Undergraduate degree in a science field or a College diploma (laboratory technician or technologist) is an asset.
• 1 year of experience working in a laboratory setting is an asset.
• Strong experience multitasking a variety of work.
• Knowledge of lab operations and maintenance.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English; clearly express ideas in written and oral communications. 
• Demonstrated ability to proactively troubleshoot laboratory operations and equipment issues for solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team setting; a strong self-starter work ethic/attitude.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in an entrepreneurial, growing, and changing work environment.

Position Details

 This is a full-time, permanent role.  General workdays are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Friday; occasional evening and/or weekend work required to meet deadlines.

• Salary range $40,000-$50,000 (Your employment offer will be determined based on many factors as part of our total rewards package).
